Artist Statement
My early aesthetic appreciation was influenced by the glamour of Old Hollywood, and the style and charm of ‘starlets’ like Marilyn, Ginger, and Grace. As a teenager I would rummage through church fairs and thrift shops for vintage costume jewellery, delighting in discovering pieces that were unique and reflective of the era. The foundations of my designs are an expression of my affection for this time.
Beach summers, the surrounding flora and the beauty and energy of the coast is also an inspiration. Hiking through coastal bush, strolling along a sun-kissed beaches, and listening to the meditative sound of the ocean connects me to my creativity. The thrill of sighting a flannel flower in amongst a palette of sandy whites, greens and turquoise, or encountering an ocean vista framed by scented gums and banksias, endures.
A signature element across my designs has featured a six-petal flower, inspired by delicate wildflowers of the coast. When creating, I have used various texture techniques, including reticulation, hammering, and engraving. The inclusion of gold foil, colourful semi-precious stones, crystals, and beading, replicating our summer skies and glistening coastal waters, and reflects the glitter of the Golden Age.
